The berserkers were the most feared warriors in the Norse world. They fought in a trance-like fury — berserksgangr — that made them impervious to pain and seemingly unstoppable in battle. Clad in bear or wolf pelts, they charged without armour, axes swinging, and broke shield walls that held against ordinary men. The sagas describe them as Odin's own warriors, channelling something beyond human rage.
