What was the Land Waster banner?
Land Waster — Landøyðan in Old Norse — was Harald Hardrada's personal raven banner. According to the sagas, it was said to bring victory to whoever marched behind it, but death to the one who carried it. It had never been defeated in battle before Stamford Bridge on 25 September 1066.
