The grove at Kingley Vale has never quite shaken the weight of what happened there — and on misty mornings, when the light comes low through the ancient canopy, the shapes between the trees are not always easy to explain. This canvas captures that moment: a line of ghostly figures emerging from the green-black mist, shields raised, standing as they stood in life. Not a battle scene. A vigil. The army that never stood down, still holding the ground they paid for in blood.
